2017 MISS BRONTE CABERNET RELEASE

You’ve been enjoying our 17 Pinot Noir and 17 Grenache for some time and I am thrilled to be able to share our new 17 Cabernet release with you now. With the cooler weather now upon us, Marilyn and I (and Jack now that he’s 18) have been opening more reds of late, including this beautiful new release. We were very happy with the 2017 vintage here in Eden Valley. Good soil moisture and cooler temperatures in the lead up to the 2017 harvest resulted in extremely healthy vines at vintage time. A later than usual harvest date meant the grapes ripened more slowly, enabling consistent fruit development and a gradual accumulation of sugars and flavours, which is exactly what winemakers are looking for to produce high quality…

2017 ZIP LINE SHIRAZ RELEASE

It is with great pleasure that I bring you our new cellar door release of the 2017 Zip Line Shiraz. A later than usual harvest date meant the grapes ripened more slowly, enabling consistent fruit development and a gradual accumulation of sugars and flavours, which is exactly what winemakers are looking for to produce high quality wines. Eden Valley’s 17 vintage has produced some quite outstanding…

William Frederick in the Barossa Super 100

Released this June, the Barossa Super 100 list of wines is the first regional classification that highlights renowned Barossa wines selling for AUD$100 and above, and Brockenchack is proud to have our William Frederick Shiraz feature on this list. This classification has brought together some of the most sought-after wines from the Barossa, celebrating a diverse range of distinguished vineyard sites, rare old vines, generational grape growing families and a commitment to excellence on behalf of the wineries. With over 100 wines featured in the Classification the list represents the depth of collectable wines of distinction being made in Australia’s most famous wine region. The inaugural launch of Barossa’s Super 100 Classification took place at a gala reception in Shanghai on Saturday 1 June 2019. Launching the Classification, Barossa Grape &…

TOP 5, 5 STARS & BEST BUY FOR 2016 ZIP LINE SHIRAZ

We are thrilled that New Zealand’s Cuisine Magazine has just awarded our 2016 Zip Line Shiraz 5 stars and ‘Best Buy’ as part of their July 2019 edition shiraz tasting. Even more chuffed that we slid proudly into the judge’s top 5!  (out of 119 wines tasted mind you)  and here’s what they had to say: “From the elevated and relatively cooler Eden Valley, this vibrant, ripe wine from 90 year old vines exudes blueberries and raspberries that intertwine beautifully with sweet vanilla oak. An elegant expression of shiraz with a generous structure and chalky tannins. Cellar with confidence for up to 4 years.” Up against some other superb Aussie shirazes, we were the only Eden Valley shiraz to make it into the top 10,…

ARTICLE: THE MAN WITH THE MIDAS TOUCH

“It’s confession time, and while I hesitate to admit it, the reality is I was wrong. Erroneous, incorrect or just plain mistaken, I was firmly of the view that longtime Sunshine Coast resident, Trevor Harch, had gone stark raving mad when he first told me that he had purchased a vineyard near Keyneton in the Eden Valley and that he planned to move there with wife, Marilyn, to become vinicultural primary producers. Trevor was well known for his passion for the wine industry and South Australia’s Barossa Valley in particular, but to buy a vineyard and move there was surely plain bonkers? Just over a decade has passed since my initial assessment of Trevor’s mental faculties and I have to admit to my error of judgement. Not only have Trevor…

90 points for our Megan Jane Grenache

The tasting panel of the March/April 2019 edition of Drinks Trade Magazine awarded our 2017 Megan Jane Grenache with 90 points. A score of 90-95 is outstanding in their classification. Judge Travis Fuller’s comments were:  “Cherries, earth, thyme, sweetness and acid core. Very appealing.” Our 2017 Megan Jane Grenache ranked 2nd out of all the straight Grenache varietals submitted. Not too shabby for our first release of this wine. Buy here Click here to read the digital edition of the magazine

German Travel Writers’ Review of Brockenchack

Translated copy from Jost and Juliane Bettinga’s ‘Wine-Travelling’ bog post of Feb 4, 2019: https://wine-travelling.de/weingut-eden-valley-brockenchack/ Excellent wine from the Eden Valley and Brockenchack Wines a rising star: “In the Eden Valley, world-class wines are produced!” This statement had us curious and moved us to make a trip to the wine region near the Barossa Valley. By chance, we found a very special vineyard there, whose wines we really liked very much. We found it particularly interesting that the winemaker is a career changer and only a few years ago found his way into the wine industry – without any studies or other background in wine growing. Find out more about the Eden Valley and the winery Brockenchack later in the article. Award Winning Cool Climate Pinosity

2017 Hare Hunter Pinot Noir Silver Medal – 2018 New York World Wine and Spirits Awards Wine making is about pioneering instincts and enjoying fine wines. Pinot Noir is not a common varietal grown in Eden Valley, but as it is a favourite varietal of ours, and our winemaker’s, we wanted to deliver an elegant Pinot from our cool climate Eden Valley vineyard. Grown at the highest point on our vineyard, at 480m above sea level, we were able to ripen our Pinot Noir grapes perfectly, so we took the opportunity to bottle them for you. Hare hunting has been a much enjoyed pastime for our teenage Grandsons over the past couple of years. Despite their best efforts, the lads had never been able to nab…

Our First Release Eden Valley Grenache

2017 Megan Jane Grenache Bronze Medal – 2018 Australian Cool Climate Wine Show Megan has been an integral part of our Brockenchack family since its inception and we felt it only fitting to honour her ongoing dedication by naming this wine after her. Bright Crimson in colour, our first release Eden Valley Grenache tells a story of aromatic mulberries and raspberries in the air. A medium bodied red wine style, harnessing all the best characteristics of Grenache by delivering fleshy, ripe red fruits in balance with the gentle tannin structure. Deeper brooding flavours arrive with time, giving opulence of style, while delicate spices come to life, completing the picture. We were pretty chuffed that our first release Grenache won a Bronze at its first wine show. $35 per bottle | Learn…
