Barossa Valley Shiraz: A Story in Every Glass

There’s something unmistakable about a Barossa Valley Shiraz. It’s more than the deep crimson colour or the rich, velvety texture; it’s a story of the land itself. A story that starts in the soil and ends in your glass.

At Brockenchack Wines, our Shiraz captures the true spirit of the Eden Valley, Barossa’s cooler, high-altitude sub-region, where every grape tells its own tale of time, temperature, and terroir.

A Legacy Rooted in History

The Barossa Valley Shiraz has a history as rich as the wine itself. The story began in the 1840s, when German and English settlers first planted Shiraz vines in the Barossa’s fertile soils. With its Mediterranean climate, generous sunshine, and diverse soils, the region quickly became one of the most celebrated wine-growing areas in Australia, and today, it is home to some of the oldest Shiraz vines in the world.

Over the decades, Barossa winemakers have shaped a global reputation for Shiraz that’s bold, complex, and full of character. The style has evolved from hearty, full-bodied reds to more elegant and expressive versions, like those grown in Eden Valley, where altitude and cooler nights create finer tannins, lifted aromas, and incredible balance.

At Brockenchack, we’re proud to continue that tradition, crafting estate-grown Barossa Valley Shiraz that honours the region’s heritage while capturing the unique personality of our vineyard.

Crafted with Care and Character

Our vineyard is 100% hand-pruned, tended with the same care and precision that’s guided generations of winemakers before us. Every vine is nurtured by hand, and every grape is picked at its peak to ensure quality and consistency from one vintage to the next.

Each bottle of our Shiraz is crafted entirely on our estate, from vine to barrel to glass, so we can preserve the integrity of the fruit and the story it tells.

The Taste of Eden Valley

Perched high above the Barossa floor, the Eden Valley offers a cooler climate and stony soils that create Shiraz with exceptional depth and elegance.
Expect a bouquet of dark cherry, blackberry, and pepper spice, with layers of mocha and plum on the palate, all framed by silky tannins and a long, graceful finish.

It’s a style that perfectly represents the balance of power and finesse, true to the Barossa Valley Shiraz legacy, but unmistakably Brockenchack.

Our Barossa Valley Shiraz Collection

From fresh and vibrant to bold and cellar-worthy, each of our Shiraz tells a different part of the Brockenchack story, shaped by our vineyard’s unique elevation, climate, and family history. Here’s a look at the four expressions that define our Barossa Valley Shiraz range.

William Frederick Shiraz

Named in honour of Trevor’s late father, William Frederick Harch, this is our pinnacle wine, a masterful expression of cool-climate Shiraz from 90-year-old vines.
Crafted in limited quantities and made entirely from our finest parcels of estate-grown fruit, the William Frederick Shiraz delivers rich layers of blackberry, plum, and black cherry, underscored by mocha, mint, and earthy complexity. Its seamless structure, ripe tannins, and extraordinary length make it a collector’s dream and a lasting tribute to family heritage.

Jack Harrison Shiraz

Our Jack Harrison Shiraz is named for our grandson, who’s training to become the next-generation winemaker at Brockenchack.
This 2021 vintage reflects the strength and character of vines averaging 60 years of age. Deep maroon in colour with intense aromas of dark cherry, cassis, and star anise, it reveals layers of black fruit, French oak spice, and silky tannins. Awarded multiple gold medals across international wine competitions, it’s an impressive showcase of what Eden Valley Shiraz can achieve: power, precision, and elegance in perfect harmony.

Zip Line Shiraz

The Zip Line Shiraz embodies the energy and joy that runs through our vineyard, much like the zip line that brings laughter to every generation of our family.
Made from a mix of 50-year-old vines for depth and younger vines for vibrancy, the 2022 Zip Line Shiraz is a bright, fruit-forward wine with flavours of ripe plum, black cherry, and a touch of chocolate. It’s crafted to be enjoyed young, with supple tannins and a smooth finish that makes it an effortless crowd-pleaser. Pair it with rich, meaty dishes, from osso bucco to slow-roasted lamb, for a truly satisfying experience.

Great Scott Sparkling Shiraz

A tribute to Scott Pollock, our late son-in-law, husband to Trudi, and father to Jack and Charli, the NV Great Scott Sparkling Shiraz celebrates both life and legacy.
This rare Eden Valley Sparkling Shiraz bursts with bright pink effervescence and lively aromas of raspberry, cinnamon, and blackcurrant. On the palate, it’s a luxurious blend of strawberry mousse, plum, and dark chocolate, the perfect companion for celebrations, weekend barbecues, or festive roasts. It’s a sparkling reminder that great Shiraz doesn’t just age beautifully, it can dance too.
